Retrofit Planning
Sequence Before Spending
Retrofits work best when the order is right. A home energy audit, envelope work, HVAC planning, electrical capacity, rebate timing, and financing should be considered together.
Diagnose the Constraint
Drafts, cold floors, hot rooms, high bills, short cycling, and humidity problems point to different fixes. The right first step may be air sealing, duct work, insulation, controls, or equipment replacement.
Protect the Rebate
Many programs require documentation before work starts. A retrofit plan should preserve audit baselines, model numbers, contractor approvals, photos, and invoices.
Avoid Duplicate Work
Envelope upgrades can reduce the HVAC size needed later. Electrical planning can prepare for heat pumps, EV charging, induction, and heat pump water heaters in one coordinated scope.
